Description

Penfolds Koonunga Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is a red wine produced by Penfolds, one of Australia's most renowned and respected wineries. The Koonunga Hill range aims to offer high-quality wines at a more accessible price point, making them approachable for wine enthusiasts. Koonunga Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from various vineyards across South Australia, including regions like the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra. This allows for a blend that showcases the diversity and characteristics of different terroirs within the region. In the glass, Koonunga Hill Cabernet Sauvignon typically displays a deep ruby or garnet color, reflecting its concentration and maturity. On the nose, it offers enticing aromas of blackcurrants, dark berries, and black cherries, along with hints of mint, eucalyptus, and subtle oak nuances. When it comes to taste, this Cabernet Sauvignon delivers a well-structured and full-bodied palate. It presents flavors of ripe black fruits, such as blackberry and plum, along with notes of spice, dark chocolate, and a touch of tobacco. The wine's tannins are often firm yet integrated, providing structure and aging potential. Koonunga Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is known for its approachable and versatile character. It can be enjoyed in its youth, offering immediate pleasure, but also has the potential to develop further complexity with some additional cellaring. This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with a range of dishes, including grilled meats, hearty stews, roasted vegetables, and aged cheeses. Its versatility makes it suitable for both casual gatherings and more formal occasions.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR Dark core, purple rim NOSE The nose is varietally defined, with a distinctive chocolate/mint note immediately to the fore. With a gentle swirl, generous dark fruits emerge. Fresh satsuma plum, mulberries and blackberries. The confectioners shop appears again, with a suggestion of red liquorice. Toasted oak is manifesting as roasted hazelnuts...Nutella! PALATE The palate is firm, structured and very generous. Milk chocolate flavours lead the way, with a generous berry compote close behind. The tannins are silky, almost waxy or polished, creating a fine graphite like core. The texture is verging on lanolin, cheese rind, creamy. Juicy and utterly delicious. PEAK DRINKING Now - 2030
